Fishing
The large number of
wayerways also offers a wide range of fish to catch. The bait is taken by brown trout, whitefish, grayling, pike and burbot, to name just a few. You are guaranteed a catch on these waterways that are well maintained and stocked with fish. A wild catch of brown trout and other valuable fish also awaits anglers on wilderness lakes and brooks.
The free flowing
Livojoki River is not only the perfect place for
water recreation, but also a great river for fishing. The most popular fishing lakes are Kitkajärvi, Livojärvi, Kirintöjärvi, Suolijärvet lakes and the
Korouoma area. Each lake district have their unique fish stock, but the best known fish species in Posio is probably the small vendace of Lake Kitkajärvi, called "The Wise One of Kitka". You could find this delicious fish on a fishing net or seine net fishing trip, or at the very latest on your dinner plate.
Please note that you always need to pay a
fishing management fee and fishing permits for fishing in Posio and other areas in Finland. The only exceptions when you don't need any permits are
angling and ice-fishing. If you want to go fishing in several places you might need different permits in different areas.
