The beautiful nature of Posio provides excellent oppotunities for enjoying the clean nature, the peace and quiet of the great outdoors.  Posio is like a miniature of Lapland: Fells, versatile waterways, vast swamp areas and ancient forests form an amazing combination of the most beautiful nature destinations in Lapland.

You can enjoy the beautiful nature destinations of Posio in every season.  In the summer  you can explore Posio with excursions and see the blossoming nature showing its bright green vegetation and blue waterways. On an autumnal "Ruska" hike you can enjoy the yellow, red and orange colours of the nature. In the winter  the landscape is wrapped in frosty crown of snow load that dresses the trees in a heavy white coat. In the winter it is best to explore the nature destinations by cross-country skiing or by walking the snowfields with snowshoes.

There are many nature destinations in Posio that are easily accessible and suitable also for families. Most of the destinations are very good for daytrips, and Posio Tourist Information would like to warmly recommend some "must-see" destinations which you could visit during your stay in Posio:

Day 1: Korouoma -Rugged canyon millions of years old occurring in the bedrock fracture zone
Day 2: Riisitunturi National Park - Wilderness-style fell and hill nature at its best
Day 3: Hirsiniemi - Handsome ridge region in the middle of lake Livojärvi
Day 4: Pyytöuoma - Beautiful nature path in the old forests of Pernu village
Day 5: Auttiköngäs - Nature path in the old log floating rapids in the ancient forest
Day 6: Karitunturi Fell Area - Nature protection area with rare hillside swams
Day 7: Palotunturi - Beautiful nature path in the fell area
 
If you have more time to spend in the Posio area, there are two remarkable nature destinations in about one hours driving distance from the town centre of Posio:

Oulanka National Park
The park is situated in the municipality of Kuusamo and includes many different hiking routes. Probably the most famous hiking trail "Karhuhkierros" goes through Oulanka Natinal Park.

Syöte National Park
The park is situated in the area of three municipalities: Posio, Taivalkoski and Pudasjärvi. It is divides in to four sections and offers many hikingroutes and nature paths.
